Filing-machines, riciprocating.-In a holding- down and work-feeding device for a filing or like machine which enables work pieces larger than the machine table 2 to be accommodated, the lower surface of the table is provided with lugs having pins 3 which carry adjustable pillars 4 supporting arms 7 provided with adjustable holding-down devices 9. The vertical adjustment of the arms 7 may be determined by stop-collars 6. The bracket 11 of the feed device for the work 18 is adjustable circumferentially in an undercut rim 13 of the table and is slotted to provide a rough adjustment for the nut 14 of the feed spindle 16 which is rotated from a head 15 and which is fitted with a work-engaging projection 17.
