Strip-perforating machines.-In machines of the kind described in Specification 232,800, in which the punches are selected by the action of circulating elements, the selection is, effected by incisions of varying depth in the edges of the elements. The feeling. members 8, Fig. 2, are accommodated in the separating-slide 6, by which the elements are lifted into engagement with the distributor-screws 13, Fig. 1. The slide 6 is actuated by levers 5, 2, and a cam 3, and the members 8, which bear against a shoulder 6<a> on the slide, are pressed upwards by levers 12 and spring- tensioned rods 14. The slide 6 is lifted by the cam 3 in two stages, and at the first, or feeling, stage, the elements are held down by an arm 11<b> of a lever 11, which engages the lower lugs of the elements. At the second movement of the slide 6, an abutment 10 carried by the lever 5 releases the lever 11, which moves out of the path of the elements, and allows them to be lifted into engagement with the screws 13. If there are no elements to be distributed, the. feeling-levers 12 are locked by a spring. pressed lever 50, controlled by a bow 53, which is acted on by the ascending elements. The rods 14 operate sliding bands 17, Fig. 6, containing notches, which permit the passage of bolts 19 under the action of spring-pressed levers 20. The levers 20 are connected to punches 25, and are permitted by the notches in the bands 17 to move into the path of a cam-actuated bar 22, by which the punches are operated. The bands 17 are locked by a pawl-lever 29, which engages notches in their edges. The levers 20 are normally held retracted by a cam-actuated frame 63.
