[Class 74 (ii)] Pattern mechanism-When pattern-producing elements are positively adjusted by a pattern or design wheel into operative relationship with an actuating cam for such elements, this cam comprises two or more relatively adjustable parts so that optionally the pattern or design wheel can produce different changes. As shown, the pattern wheel 14 carrying bits 15 with frangible butts acts through a bank of levers 18 on the needle jacks 12 and the butts 13 of those jacks not depressed are engaged by a cam 21, 22 which lifts the jacks through one stage or two stages according as the upper part 22 of the cam is depressed or elevated. The cam part 22 slides on vertical pegs 26, is pulled down by a spring 129 and raised by a sliding cam 31 connected by a link 38 with a bell-crank 34, 35 biassed in one direction to lower the cam part 22 by a spring 370. A pivoted catch 340 above the lever arm 34 and biassed by a spring 43 can lock the bell-crank 34, 35 with the cam part 22 in its raised position. Change of position of the cam part 22 is effected by adjusting the level of a striker 39 into the path of the lever 34 or the catch 340. Specification 267,876, [Class 74 (ii)], is referred to.
