Fats and fatty oils, purifying.- In the deodorization of fats and oils bv atomization into an evacuated space by superheated steam as described in the parent Specification, the atomizing nozzles 2, 3 are arranged tangentially on the periphery of a cylinder 1 and the vapours are led away through an inner cylinder 4 connected to a vacuum pipe 5. The cylinder 4 acts as a baffle and facilitates separation of the oil articles. It may have a solid periphery but be open at the lower part, or may be formed in whole or in part of wire gauze or perforated metal; baffles in the form of metal strips or a worm may be arranged within it. Compartments fitted with atomizers may alternate with heating compartments to form a column as described in the parent Specification, or to faciltate access to the compartments a. series of atomizing cylinders may be arranged in steps with separate heating compartments between and connected thereto by pipes.
