Abstract

259,497. Bollmann, H. Jan. 5, 1926, [Convention date]. Spray evaporators; column stills.-In evaporating organic solvents from materials which have been extracted by them, the liquid is atomized by steam into a cylindrical chamber in a a direction tangential to the walls. The chamber may be horizontal or vertical and the liquid may be passed in succession through a series of chambers. Liquid is atomized by steam in a device 4 into a chamber 1. The unvaporized liquid is heated either by heating jackets surrounding the chambers or by passage through a heated nest of tubes 12 and is discharged through an atomizer 9 into a second chamber 2. Vapours are withdrawn through a central pipe 6 having perforations or openings covered with wire gauze 7.
