Abstract

Crucible furnaces.-In crucible furnaces of the pot hole " type in which access to the ashpits 4 is obtained from a cellar space beneath the working-floor, the furnaces are supported upon a rigid metal structure including members which take the thrust of the cellar arch 7. As shown girders 1, 2 run the length of the installation, the former being positioned to support the cellar arch 7 and the latter being mounted in the back wall 5 of the ashpit space. At intervals the girders 1, 2 are connected by transverse members 6, which support the grate frames 13 and foundation rings 17 for the lining and walls of the crucible holes, and also serve to transmit the thrust of the arch 7 to the back wall 5.
