Abstract

263,251. Annacker, J. P. Oct. 13, 1925. Boxes and cases.-Water and gas-tight casings for tumbler switches have interposed between the lid D and box A a washer G of copper-asbestos, lead, hard rubber or wire-woven composition, this washer being compressed between the faced surfaces of the casing members by the cover-retaining screws F. The switch is operated by a crank arm K on a spindle I which also carries an external operating handle J. Where the spindle I passes through the lid a watertight gland is formed by placing around the spindle a number of soft-metal washers N which are compressed between washers P by a gland nut O. Each washer is made of lead and is of the form shown in Fig. 2 having an inverted V-groove stamped out circumferentially on its face, so that on compression the V is flattened out and the internal and external edges of the washer pressed against the spindle and the side of the stuffing-box.
