Abstract

260,411. Walker, G. W. Higgs-, and Pretropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. Oct. 13, 1925. Blades.-To enable long blades to be used at high peripheral speeds, the effective portion of the blade is inclined in the direction of rotation sufficiently to cause the locus 0 G of the centres of gravity of successive transverse sections of the blade from end to end thereof to lie in advance, in the direction of rotation, of a line 0 R drawn radially of the turbine rotor through the centre of gravity 0 of the section at the root of the blade. Preferably the angle between the lines 0 G, 0 R is such that the tensile stresses at the thin edges of the concave side of the blade due to blending action by the steam are neutralized by those due to the action of centrifugal force at these parts at the normal speed of the rotor.
