Sausages, black-puddings, and the like.-In a machine for filling puddings, sausages, or polonies, the solid, semi-solid, or liquid ingredients are supplied to the filling-cylinder either through the end opening or through a normally closed opening, or openings, in the cylinder wall, and the nozzle is closed by a side valve or tap. As shown in plan in Fig. 2, the cylinder A is mounted on the usual frame by trunnions E, F and the rear opening is provided with removable checks or retaining-bars O to prevent accidental withdrawal of the plunger. Two charging openings G are provided in the wall of the cylinder and closure discs H are rotatably mounted in arms J pivoted at j, the discs being provided with tapered lugs which engage tapered lugs on the edges of the openings G. Suitable jointing material may be interposed between the discs and the openings G. A tundish L is carried by an arm M revoluble on a spindle N which carries a radial pin engageable with recesses in the boss of the arm M whereby the tundish is positioned either over one or other of the openings G or in the midway inoperative position. The valve S may be slidably arranged to shut-off the nozzle C. The closures may be in the form of plugs H<1>, Fig. 13, each having a tommy bar K<1> running radially therethrough, the bar engaging under diametrically opposed inclined hook-shaped members on the cylinder A. The underside of the plug is shaped to conform and lie flush with the cylinder wall and a packing ring lies in a groove H<2>. In a modification, Fig. 6, the nozzle is carried eccentrically on a member R bolted to the cylinder but revolubly adjustable thereon. Since the heavier ingredients tend to fall to the bottom of the cylinder A, blending may be effected by adjusting the height of the nozzle by revolving the member R. In another modification, Fig. 7, a plate U having two openings u is revoluble between the member R and the cylinder A for blending, the plate being stiffened by angles V. In a further modification, Fig. 9, blending is effected by a propeller-like agitator W carried on an archimedian screw X operated by the plunger B during its advance.
