Abstract

683,711. Centrifugal machines. WATSON, LAIDLAW & CO., Ltd., TATE & LYLE, Ltd., and SIMMONS, C. E. G. June 20, 1951 [March 29, 1950], No. 7832/50. Class 23 Apparatus for charging at least one centrifugal machine comprises mixer means 1, 2 adapted to discharge by way of valve means 3, 4 to a conduit 5 having at least one discharge door 14 therein, a cylinder 6 having a piston 7 of adjustable stroke and connected to the conduit and thrustors 17, 16 and 10 operatively connected to the valve means, to the discharge door and to the piston, respectively. In operation one of the valves 3, 4 is opened and the piston 7 retracted to permit a flow of massecuite into the conduit 5. When the piston 9 has moved a certain distance the valve 3 or 4 is closed and a door 14 opened whereupon the piston 9 is actuated to feed the massecuite into the centrifuge. The thrustors are operated by hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical means. The discharge doors are interlocked so that one door only can be opened at a given time. The doors may be locked by a tongue engaging the control handle of the remaining doors when one of the doors is open. The top of the cylinder 6 communicates with a reservoir 11 containing syrup.
