Discontinuously loaded cables. - In marine telephone cables, the coils 11 are separated by elastic members 14 which are reinforced against radial pressure by insertions of more rigid material. In the construction shown rings 15 of pressure-resisting material such as metal, fibre, press-pan, or hard rubber are embedded in the elastic material, which may be rubber. In a modification the intermediate members may consist of alternate discs of elastic and rigid material, or rings of the rigid material may be set in peripheral slots in the elastic member. In another construction a core of hard rubber with soft rubber at both sides may constitute the intermediate member.
