Discontinuously loaded cables. - In marine telephone cables, each individual coil 11 is provided with a rigid pressure-resisting metal sleeve 13, which may be smooth or corrugated. Interposed elastic members 14 provide sufficient flexibility and at both ends of a row of coils are arranged tri-partite terminal members 22 of a metal such as bronze which are hollow to receive a portion of slack cable. The lead cable sheathing 17 is supported by steel coils 23 and sheathed in rubber 18, armouring 19, and jute 20.
