Abstract
258,489. Albihn, H. F. Feb. 18, 1926, [Convention date]. Projectiles.-A projectile intended to be dropped from aircraft is provided at the moment of launching a a parachute which opens out and checks the horizontal speed of the projectile, and is then released from the projectile, allowing the latter to fall substantially vertically. As shown, the parachute 7 is arranged in a casing 10 at the rear end of the projectile 1, and is connected to an eye-bolt 5 on the projectile by a line 6 which is tied round a glass tube 11 containing a corrosive acid. When the projectile is dropped, the parachute opens out and extends the line 6, which jerks and breaks the glass tube 11, spilling the acid into a recess 4 around the eyebolt 5. After a short time the line 6 is decomposed by the acid and breaks off, leaving the projectile free from the parachute.
