Abstract
160,077. Blackburn Aeroplane & Motor Co., Ltd., and Thornton, A. C. Feb. 25, 1920. Launching torpedoes.-Relates to apparatus for dropping torpedoes from aircraft, and consists in the provision of a vertically depending leg 1 having a tine 5 which extends into or beyond the plane of rotation of the usual vanewheel 4 at the nose of the torpedo 3, whereby the vane-wheel is held against rotation after the usual safety-pin is removed until the torpedo is dropped. A fork 6 fitted to the end of the leg 1 embraces the nozzle 2 between the vane-wheel and the torpedo body. The leg is hinged at 7 to a bracket 8 secured beneath the radiator of the aircraft, and is connected by a flexible, member 9 to a spring 12, which normally holds the leg against the nose of the torpedo, and causes the leg to fold up against a stop 13, as shown in dotted lines, when the torpedo is dropped.
