463,174. Torpedoes. MATERIELS ET ARMEMENTS MODERNES. Sept. 7, 1936, No. 24374. Convention date, Sept. 9, 1935. [Class 9 (ii)] Relates to marine torpedoes adapted to be dropped from aircraft and provided with aerial sustaining means, and consists mainly in attaching the sustaining means to the torpedo in such a manner that they are released on impact with the water. As shown, a wing 1 is provided with a post 1<a>, which fits in a socket 2 on the torpedo 12 and is secured. thereto by a rotary catch 3. An arm 4 on this catch is connected to a rod 7 provided with a baffle 6 controlled by a spring 8. Another arm 5 on the catch is connected to a rod 9 controlled by a spring 10 and ending near the engine starting lever 11. When the torpedo strikes water after being launched from an aircraft, the baffle 6 is pressed back, causing the catch 3 to rotate and release the post 1<a>, and at the same time the rod 9 strikes the lever 11 and the engine is thereby started.
