Abstract

578,906. Aerial mines. GRAHAM, A. March 23, 1937, No. 8511. [Class 9 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] An aerial mine comprises a bomb 1 suspended by a cable 2 from a compound parachute the drag of which is adjusted under the control of a weak link 5 between the parts. As the drag increases after the impact of an aircraft wing- X with the cable, the bomb is drawn upwards to a position for swinging to strike the wing which is determined by the breakage of the link 5. Fig. 4 shows a two-part parachute 6, 8, the skirt part 8 of which is connected to the cable 2 by a weak link 9 which breaks under excessive pull to reduce the supporting surface to that of the part 6.
