Abstract

258,147. Fornaca, G. Jan. 19, 1926. Blocks and shoes acting on drums.-In a brake leaving two or more shoes 6 each hinged at its forward end considered with respect to the direction of rotation of the brake drum, the cams 5 acting on the free ends of the shoes are supported by bushes 14 mounted in fixed arms 4, on each of which bushes the forward end of a shoe rests, whereas the adjacent or free end of the next shoe passes through a slot in the bush and bears against the cam supported thereby. The cams 5 rotate in the bushes 14 and each comprises a cylinder having a flat side and mounted on a spindle 15 journaled in the end walls of the bush. The arms 8, 11 which operate the cams pass through slots in the bushes 14. A rope 12 passing round a pulley 13 operates the lever 8 which operates the lever 11 by an arm 9 and link 10. The brake shoes 6 are U-shaped in cross-section in order to enclose the cam operating mechanism. As shown, the fixed arms 4 supporting the bushes 14 are secured to the steering swivel of a steering wheel.
