Abstract

258,075. Vernon, G. H., Pugh, J. V., and Rudge-Whitworth, Ltd. Sept. 1. 1925. Axles; frame construction; springs, arrangement of.-A frame for a side-car comprises five members connected to form two triangles with a common base and lying in planes making an obtuse angle with one another, the wheel being located at the apex of one triangle the sides of which are extended for attachment to the cycle while the apex of the other triangle is attached to the seat-pillar lug of the cycle. As shown in perspective in Fig. 1, a horizontally arranged triangular structure comprises a resilient axlebar b, as for example described in Specification 233,809, an inclined resilient bar c and a base member a more or less parallel to the cycle. The outer ends of the bars b, c are bent upwardly and provided with apertures to receive the wheel axle h and the inner end of the bar b is similarly bent for attachment to the back fork g of the cycle. The front end of the bar c is atttached to the cycle at c<3>. The second triangle, of which the bar a forms the base, comprises bars f, j secured at f to the seat-pillar lug. The bars b, c are reinforced in the regions of attachment to the members a. f, i by resilient plates b<4>, c<4>. The side-car body is carried, at its front end, on the upwardly crooked end d' of a bar d and, at its rear end, on a transverse spring k connected by a shackle h<4> to the inner end of the wheel axle and to a forked lug k' secured at the common point of connection of the bars a - - d, and f.
