Abstract

257,682. Aische, M. I. June 9, 1925. Sizes for textiles comprise metallic or alkali soaps or rosinates, or soaps such as those described in Specification 255,508, [Class 91, Oils &c.], with an alkaline solution and an aldehyde, with or without alcohols or a fatty ester such as spermaceti, starch, starch salts, gums, resins, dextrins, sugars such as maltose, glucose or dextrose, tapioca, flour, or china clay may be added. Insoluble soaps such as those of calcium, magnesium, iron or aluminium in aqueous suspension, or solutions of alkali soaps may be used, separately, or mixed. Suitable alkalies comprise lime water, caustic soda or potash, sodium or potassium carbonate, ammonium hydrate or carbonate; and as aldehydes, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, benzaldehyde, chloral hydrate, or furfural may be used. For addition, alcohols such as methyl, ethyl, or cetyl alcohol, glycerol, cholesterol, phytosterol or sitosterol, with or without a solvent such as mono, di or tetrachlor-ethane or carbon disulphide, are suitable. In an example, in addition to the various materials specified, sodium hypochlorite is employed. The Provisional Specification also describes sizes comprising the various soaps specified, alkaline solution, and either aldehydes or alcohols.
