Abstract
328,645. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Jan. 30, 1929. Adhesives are obtained from yeast by mixing dry yeast, or dry products of yeast autolysis, with dry alkaline agents, such as alkali metal hydroxides or salts having an alkaline reaction, with or without the further addition of aldehydes capable of splitting off aldehydes or mixtures of such substances before, during or after the mixing operation. The alkaline salts mentioned are sodium phosphates and potassium carbonate. Dimethylol urea is referred to as a substance capable of splitting off an aldehyde. In examples, (1) dry yeast is ground with powdered caustic soda; (2) paraldehyde is sprayed on to dry yeast in a mixing drum and powdered caustic soda is added; (3) dry yeast is ground with tri-sodium phosphate. Adhesives are prepared from the above dry compositions by stirring them with water.
