Contact-making relays.-Polarized relays which are constructed of standard parts used in the construction of well-known non-polarized telephone relays comprise a core 1 carrying an exciting coil 2 which is attached to a cup-shaped polepiece 7 for the bar-shaped permanent magnet 10 by a screw 6 of magnetic material. The screw 6 clamps between the members 7 and 1 a non- magnetic bracket 4 which is screwed to an L- shaped soft-iron member 3 one arm of which carries the other cup-shaped pole-piece 8, the magnet 10, which is of cobalt steel, being held securely between these pole-pieces by a magnetic spring washer 9 between its end and the recess in the, member 8. The armature 11 is pivoted at 12 to an extension 13 of the frame 3 and is provided with an adjustable return spring 18. An extension 20 of the armature, carries a contact adapted to engage an adjustable fixed contact 25, an adjustable stop contact 21 limiting the outward movement of the armature. The permanent magnet may be of horse-shoe shape.
