Abstract

256,543. L³tgeb³ter, R. May 10, 1926. Lathes; centring or positioning work. - A wood-turning lathe is provided with a longitudinal slide-rest s carrying a roughing tool r<1> controlled by a profiled guide plate or templet v and a cross slide m carrying a profiled finishing tool m<1>, both slides being actuated by hand-operated lever mechanism to bring the tools successively into operation. The slide s is provided with brackets in which is mounted a shaft t carrying the rocking holder r for the tool r<1>, an arm r<2> on the tool holder engaging with the fixed templet v. The work is located between the centres by a device comprising an arm x terminating in a V-plate y, the work piece being first placed in the V-plate and the arm x swung against a spring z into contact with an adjustable stop x<1>. The back centre c is then brought up to engage the work by means of a cam-plate d engaging rollers f on the tailstock. The operating band lever e of the cam-plate is also connected through a rod g, lever h, rod n, bell-crank p and rod q to the slide s. The lever h is mounted on a rock shaft i which is connected through rods k, l with the cross-slide m. Thus in operation, the first movement of the hand lever e brings the back centre up to the blank and further movement first causes the roughing tool to be traversed along the work and finally brings up the finishing-tool m<1>. The hand lever is then returned whereupon the finished blank drops cut of the machine.
