Abstract
256,258. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges., (Assignees of Farbwerke vorm. Meister, Lucius, & Briining). July 30, 1925, [Convention date]. Plastic compositions containing soluble silicates and silica.-Acid-proof cements consist of a mixture of water-glass solution with a powdered modification of silica capable of strong reaction with alkali, e.g. opal, chalcedony, certain varietie of flint, silicious sinter. &c. Suitable silica shows a loss in weight of 40 per cent after boiling for two hours with 25 times its weight of 15 per cent caustic soda solution. The cement may be improved by the addition of chamotte or of alkaline earth sulphates.
