Abstract

A self-hardening water-glass cement composition comprises an inert filler, e.g. quartz, an alkali metal silicate solution, and silicophosphoric acid as hardener in amount preferably from 0.1 to 10% by weight, based on the total amount of filler and hardener, the acid having a preferred molar ratio of SiO2: P2O5 within the range 2 to 0.25, e.g. 1.0. A small amount of kaolin may be incorporated in the cement composition and the silicophosphoric acid used is preferably prepared as described in Specification 978,082.
