Abstract

321,739. Carpmael, A., (I. G. Farbenindustrie .4kt.-Ges.). Aug. 21, 1928. Clay, earthenware, and like plastic compositions; colouring.-Coloured bricks, earthenware. and other ceramic products are obtained by incorporating ferrous-ferric oxide, as chemically produced in a finely divided state, with a clay or clay mixture and then forming and firing. Suitable oxides are obtained in the reduction of aromatic nitro compounds to the corresponding amines by the processes described in Specifications 274,562 and 279,283. [both in Class 1 (iii). Oxides &c., Metallic], or by precipitating ferrous hydroxide from a ferrous salt and oxidizing by heating. Other colouring agents, for instance manganese black and ochre, may also be added.
