Abstract

Ratchet gearing. -A driving-device for r converting oscillatung into unidirectional motion comprises a cylindrical driven rotor member and a, cylindrical oscillating member, concentrically mounted within the rotor, which drives by means of two sets of oppositely directed curved wedges between which are interposed elastic roller or ball members. Figs. 5 and 7 show a construction in which both sets of wedges 46, 47 frictionally engage their corresponding cylindrical members 45, 35 which are grooved to facilitate this. Plate springs are interposed between the elastic rollers 48 and the ends of the wedges 46, 47. The oscillating member 45 of the device is connected by an Oldham coupling 42, 44 with a member 36 oscillated on the driven shaft by a link connection with a pin 37. In the modification shown in Fig. 2', the inner wedges 6 are spaced by distance pieces 7 which have flanges 8 pressed by springs 9 to maintain the parts in engagement. The rotor 10 in this form is connected with the driven shaft 2 by a diametral pin allowing slight lateral movement and the oscillatory member 3 is mounted on elastic bearings 4 on the driven shaft. The elastic rollers are preferably of coiled metal. Specification 229,357 is referred to.
