Abstract

349,252. Ratchet gearing. LAVAUD, D. S. DE, 179, Rue de ]a Pompe, Paris. April 23, 1930, No. 12540. Convention date, April 23, 1929. [Class 80 (iii).] In ratchet gearing, numerous thin bent spring blades 5 are arranged, slightly inclined to radii, between the driving and driven members 2, 1, the member 1 being notched to receive the blades and the member 2 slightly ribbed or smooth. The plates do not contact except during drive, when contact spreads from the inner ends to the bend x as the torque increases, so increasing the effective inclination of the blades to the outer member from the angle a to the angle #. Lateral shoulders 6 formed on the blades at the bend x are each clasped by two or more thin spring segments 7 which thus press the blades upon the member 1 and, by tilting them about their inner ends, also upon the member 2. When more than one segment 7 is used upon each side of the blades, the ends 10 of each segment are turned outwards to engage in a slot 11 in the next, so as to-limit their outward movement under centrifugal action.
