Abstract

255,696. Nicholls, G. H. Nov. 3, 1925. Spring power-storing mechanism. - A spring motor comprises two or more spring drums 23 fermed integral with toothed wheels 24 gearing with a common pinion 25 which, by gearing 27, 28, drives a shaft 29 mounted in fixed bearings or in adjustable arms 31 adapted to be secured in position by bolts 32. The springs 19 in all the drums 23 are wound simultaneously by a handle operating a pinion 10 engaging with gearwheels 15 secured to sleeves 17 by screws 18, the inner end of each spring being secured to its sleeve 17 by a pivoted hook 21 passed through a slot 20 in the spring. After one of the side frames 7 has been removed, each spring drum and its wheel 15 can be readily removed as a unit, the spring drum being detachably secured to its shaft. 16 by a pin 35 engaging a slot in the boss of the spring drum.
