Abstract
255,444. Brown, E. July 17, 1925, [Convention date]. Joint-making packing.-The joint between the cover and the liner of the cylinder of an internalcombustion engine may be made by a ring 33, shrunk round the liner and fixed by pins 35. The outer wall of the ring 33 is thin and it is made of a non-rusting steel alloy-e.g. one having a high percentage of nickel and a small coefficient of expansion. Leakage is intercepted by an annular port 37 which communicates with the exhaust or a place maintained at a low pressure; a gland 38 is tightened jointly with a gland 39 by the interposition of set-screws or springs.
