Abstract

24,642. Calkins, F. D., and Johnson, A. C. Oct. 28. Plug cocks.-In a rotary valve for internalcombustion engines, the seating is made in two parts, one of which is movable and is attached to a cylinder liner supported by an adjustable lever. In a modification, the movable part has cylindrical extensions which slide in the admission and exhaust passages between the valve and the combustion chamber, and in another modification a diaphragm acted on by the pressure in the cylinder increases the pressure of the valve seating during explosion. Fig. 1 shows the movable seating attached to a liner 13, which is supported by a lever 14 adjusted by a set-screw 17. The lever may be resilient or a spring may be interposed between the lever and the liner.
