Abstract

253,582. Stevens, W. J. March 16, 1925. Plastic compositions containing casein.-Casein is mixed with hot water and a solvent such as soda, ammonia, tannic acid precipitated with lime &c., and cellulose such as cotton or tissue paper is gradually stirred into plastic mass. Wax, colouring, and waterproofing materials may also be added. The mass may be moulded and is suitable for the manufacture of electric insulators. Suitable proportions are 8 oz. of casein, 4 oz. of water, 4 dr. of ammonia, 2 dr. of tannic acid precipicated with lime water, and 3 oz. of paper or cotton.
