Abstract

A thermoplastic insulating material, particularly for submarine cables, comprises a mixture of caoutchouc, guttapercha and polystyrol, in which a mixture of polystyrol and guttapercha is first obtained and then kneaded with the caoutchouc at a low temperature. Synthetic or albumen-free caoutchouc is particularly suitable. Waxes and antioxidants may also be incorporated. The proportions of polystyrol and guttapercha may be 10 and 15 per cent respectively.
