Regulating, automatic.- Polyphase dynamo-electric machines or apparatus, such as a generator 11, booster or transformer, are regulated, when working in parallel with other apparatus by a Tirrill regulator 14 operating upon the exciter 12, and operated by a coil 16 sensitive to the interphase voltage between the feeders v, w and by a coil 15 sensitive to the vectorial difference of the currents in the feeders u, v. This vectorial difference is obtained by current transformers 18, 19. The result is that when the apparatus 11 is operating at a power factor of 0.8 the resultant current in the coil 15 is substantially 90‹ out of phase with the current in the coil 16. For boosting or three-phase transformers a voltage relay can be used in phase of the Tirrill regulator and be used to effect an alteration in the tappings or connections of the transformers.
