251,098. McGivern, W. J., Foster & Co., Ltd., J. H., and Swift, R. April 29, 1925. Emulsions, making. - Bituminous emulsions, for use more particularly in treating roads, are prepared by adding in turn to melted bitumen an alkali saponification product and a solution of a protein or like colloidal body such as albumen or casein. The alkali saponification product may be the soda or potash compound formed by saponifying oleine, stearine, resin, liquid resin, fish oils, tallow, vegetable oils, or fatty acids, and during its admixture with the melted bitumen the temperature is kept substantially constant.
