Abstract
250,809. Sherrin, J. Vaughan-. Aug. 13, 1925. Electrodes. - In order to allow for contraction and expansion of the active material a storage battery elctrode is provided with helical &c. wires I embedded in the active material which is supported by a cage made of two grids A fastened together. The wires may be wound on a former and the cage may be made of lead or insulating material. In the latter case the wires are burnt to a conducting bar within the cage, the bar projecting at one end to form the terminal lug. When a lead cage is used the wires may be burnt to the cage. The grids which form the cage may be formed with spaces M, Fig. 4, in which are placed pieces of wood, ebonite, fusible metal &c. which alternate with the wire spirals I. After the cage has been pasted and dried the wood &c. pieces may be withdrawn or the fusible metal melted out.
