Abstract
249,892. Haas, R. March 30, 1925, [Convention date]. Movable-abutment type ; balancing moving parts; packing.-A pump, motor or meter of the worm and worm wheel type suitable for pulpy material is constructed with a greater clearance between the worm chamber and wheel chamber c at the low pressure end than at the high pressure end. The worm chamber is formed by a bush f, Fig. 3, slotted to the width of the worm wheel b and with a finger g extending to the casing wall at the high pressure end but cut short, as shown in Fig. 1, or having the slot h made wider, at the low pressure end. The wheel chamber o may be made wide so that the surface need not be tooled. In a construction with balancing chambers m, k, at the ends of the worm a. greater clearance is provided at the low pressure end between the co-operating surfaces of the worm and casing. At the high pressure end the co-operating casing surface may be an eccentric flange q, Fig. 4, or square flange q<1>, Fig. 5, on a ring n so that any fibre or the like caught by the surfaces may escape.
