Abstract
249,598. Cave, J. Dec. 24, 1924. Visible non-luminous signals. - A combined audible and visible signalling device particularly for use in bathrooms comprises a rotary shaft 9, Fig. 5, which is given apart turning movement bv a pull on a cable &c., and is restored by a spring, the movement of the shaft serving to rotate through gearing 8, 7, 6 the hammers of bells 2 and at the same time to release a visible signal 21. The signal 21 is normally held in the position shown by a catch 23 on the shaft 9 engaging a pin 22 on the signal shaft 19, the catch 23 having a small spring-controlled pin-and-slot connection with the shaft 9 so that when the signal is restored by hand the pin 22 rides up a cam surface on the catch 23 against the action of the spring which then serves to effect the normal relation between the pin and catch. Two sets of apparatus may be combined in one casing, the ratchet wheels 8 on the shafts 9 both gearing with the common pinion 7 to sound the bells 2, the parts of the wheels 8 normally adjacent to the pinion 7 being cut away so that the rotation of one wheel 8 will not be transmitted to the other. The cable-operating means, Fig. 8, comprises a tubular rod 32 mounted on spring-controlled pivoted arms 29 co-operating with fixed stops 30, the arm shown being mounted in a bracket which is formed as a hollow casing 28<a> containing a quadrant 34 to which the cable 11 is secured and a guide pulley 36. The cable 11 passes to the signal mechanism through guide tubes having junction boxes fitted with guide pulleys.
