Abstract

400,713. Mechanical bells. EVERRED & CO., Ltd. and MEREDITH, W. C., Surrey Works, Smethwick, Staffordshire. June 14, 1932, No. 16762. [Class 13.] A mechanical door-bell comprises a pushbutton 4 slidably mounted in a plate 5 outside the door 6 and engaging a shaft 7 attached to a lever 8, Fig. 3, one end of which is formed as a rack engaging a pinion 13, the lever 8 being normally kept in one extreme position by a spring 9. The spindle 14 carrying the pinion 13 also carries a spur or toothed wheel 15 meshing with a second spur wheel 16 at right angles thereto, the latter also meshing with a pinion 17 carrying a slotted yoke member 18, Fig. 2, in the slots of which are two dumb-bell or I-shaped strikers 19 which fly outwards on rotation of the pinion 17 to strike the bell 12. One limb of an L-section bracket 10 carries the lever 8, wheels 13, 14 and bell 12, while the other carries the wheels 16, 17. The racked end of the lever 8 is restrained from lateral displacement by a washer 20 on the end of the spindle 14.
