Bell-operating mechanism, hand. - Relates to a mechanically-operated door bell in which a shaft P of small diameter extends through the door and engages a turning-member T, one end of which may operate in a guide T<1> formed in the bracket T<2>. The turning-member consists of a coarse-threaded rod, and the guide T<1> is shaped accordingly. The other end of the turning- member is in the form of a pin passing through a hole in the middle cross-piece of the bracket T<2>. On this pin a boss carrying a pinion T<6> revolves. When the shaft P is operated, the turning-member T is moved through its guide and the rotary movement is transmitted to the gearwheel T<3>. This wheel gears with a long pinion T<4>, along which it travels, and the pinion T<6> is rotated by the gear-wheel T<5>. The pinion T<6> is in connection with the arms C' so that rotation causes the clappers C to strike the gong. On releasing the press button P<1>, the gear-wheel T<3> is pressed into normal position by a spring S, so that the movement of the gear-wheels is reversed and the bell rings again.
