Stop mechanism.-In stop watches of the kind wherein a fine toothed wheel mounted on the axis of the second wheel actuates a pinion on the arbor of the seconds hand, such pinion being thrown into and out of gear by an oscillatory movement of the said arbor which passes through the cylindrically bored centre wheel and bears at the lower end in a sleeve or plug attached to the centre wheel, the sleeve or plug is replaced by a bearing disk 18, Fig. 5, attached to the arbor 15 and, in place of a simple spring to force the pinion into gear, there is provided a double looped spring 16 having an extension whereby the tension may be adjusted. As is usual, the seconds hand is started, stopped, and returned to zero by three successive actuations of the press button 11, Fig. 2. The rotation of the cam 4 by the actuation of the button 11 allows a bell crank 3 to oscillate the arbor 15 and consequently gear the pinion 2 with a finetoothed wheel 1 and at the same time moves a lever 12 away from a heart cam 14. The second actuation withdraws the arbor and so stops the seconds hand, while the third actuation allows the lever 12 to press on the heart cam 14 and return the seconds hand to zero.
