Abstract

247,581. Potter, W. W. Dec. 11, 1923, [Convention date]. Turning; chucks.-In a lathe or other metalturning machine of the kind in which the cutting- tool is pulled over the work instead of. being pushed, a rotary spindle 12 having a chuck 13 operated by a draw-spindle is driven through gearing from an electric motor mounted outside the gear casing 11. Two tools 50 for turning the work to different diameters are mounted in a carrier 51, hinged at 52, so as to swing into and out of cutting position to a slide 44 moved axially by a rod 43 which is pulled during cutting by a cam-drum 21, and is pushed back by a spring 46. The tool-carrier is guided by a bar 45. The arrangement of the complete machine forms the subject-matter of Specification 226,178.
