Abstract

247,580. Potter, W. W. Dec. 11, 1923, [Convention date]. Turning; chucks.-In a lathe or other metal-cutting machine having a spindle and a tool carrier or carriers, the tool feeding means are rotary and concentric with the spindle. The rotary spindle 12 having a chuck 13 operated by a draw-spindle 70 is driven through gearing from an electric motor mounted outside the gear casing 11. The cam-drum 21 for the axially fed tools, a profile cam 22 for the crossslide feed, and a differential gear 23 are mounted on a sleeve 24 concentric with the spindle so as to relieve the latter from strain. The differential gear rotates the cams and is driven by a pinion 25 and clutch 27 from a shaft 26. The arrangement of the complete machine forms the subject-matter of Specification 226,178. Specifications 26167/08 and 17638/12 are also referred to.
