616,567. Lathes. BECHLER, A. Aug. 22, 1946, No. 25112. Convention date, May 3. [Class 83 (iii)] The headstock 3 of an automatic lathe is movable parallel to a gear-driven live-spindle 4 on the headstock, and provided with at least one idle wheel 12 connecting a gear 11 on the drive shaft 5 mounted on the bed 1 beneath the headstock with a gear 14 on the spindle 4. The idle-wheel 12 is formed with a collar 16 engaging discs 15 fast with the gear 11 so that, as the headstock is moved by a cam, the gear 11 is carried along the shaft 5. Also keyed to the shaft 5 is a gear 18 which rotates a workguide 22. Gears 11, 12 and 14 may have helical teeth. In a modification, Fig. 4, the idle-wheel 12 engages a long spur gear 24.
