Abstract
246,786. Schneider, K. Jan. 29, 1925, [Convention date]. Addition to 242,589. Pistons; packing.-In packing of the kind described in the parent Specification in which a split packing ring is given an initial excess tension which is counteracted by a treatment of the wearing surface, the side faces of the ring are treated as well as or instead of the wearing surface and the treatment is applied to rings of channelled section and to oil scraper rings. Fig. 2 illustrates in segment I<a> a ring with kerfs e in the end face near the outer edge and kerfs f in the outer periphery. Segment II<a> illustrates the production of excess and counter tensions by kerfs in the end face near the inner and outer edges. In a ring of H or other channel section the surfaces of the channel may be treated. Fig. 4 illustrates kerfs n in the inner surfaces of a channelled ring, kerfs l, m in the end faces and kerfs k on the periphery.
