Cup-leather packing.-In cupleather packing of the type in which the cup-leather is supported by a ring 4 formed with passages 3 admitting the fluid pressure to a circumferential recess 1, the lip of the cup-leather is supported by the ring 4, the passages 3 being formed either wholly in the surface of the ring 4, or partly in the ring 4 and partly in the cupleather. The recess 1 may be formed wholly in the cup-leather, or partly in the ring 4 also. The packing may be made of asbestos cloth interwoven with lead, brass or other wire, or of asbestos cloth, cotton duck, rubber or hemp &c.
