Abstract

Caps. - The leads of the electrodes of a thermionic valve are connected within the container to ring-shaped insulated terminals of progressively decreasing diameter, arranged concentrically, and sealed to the container. In the valve shown in Fig. 2, one cathode terminal consists of a conical tube 22 sealed to a glass tube 51 which is sealed to an anode forming part of the container. The other cathode terminal consists of a conical tube 21 which is sealed at one end to a glass ring 19 sealed to the tube 22, and the other end to a glass member 6 on which is sealed a tube 1 carrying the terminal 2 for the grid. The terminals are thus arranged in the order of their potentials. Short cathode leads 29 are connected to longer leads 27 by pins mounted in a connector 28 secured by a bayonet fastening to a quartz insulator 40. The upper ends of the leads 27 are secured to insulated members 26 connected by flexible leads 25 of wire braid to copper tubes 23, 24, which are screwed to terminals 20 soldered inside the tubes 22, 21 and registering with terminals 17 soldered on the outside of the tubes. A lead 4, insulated from the cathode leads, is secured to the grid shield 12 and is screwed into an iron plug soldered to the seal 1. A sealing tube 50 is soldered to a flange 47 on the anode. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, (3) (a) comprises also the use of such terminals in incandescent lamps. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
