Abstract

243,522. Westwood, T. Nov. 25, 1924. Stoppers with valves; stoppers hinged at one side.-In a closure for bottles, tanks, or other containers and comprising a screwed ring 2, Fig. 1, formed with a horizontal slot through which a closure disc 5 is adapted to be passed to cover the mouth of the container and to be clamped thereagainst when the ring is screwed down on the neck 1 of the container, the unscrewing of the ring 2 is limited by a projection 7 thereon engaging a projection 11 on a ring 8 secured to the neck 1, the arrangement permitting a quick removal of the disc 5. As shown the disc is pivoted to the ring 2 and a copper-and-asbestos or other washer 6 ensures a tight closure. The projection 11 may be formed directly on the neck of the container. In a modification, a pin 13, Fig. 9, on the neck 1<a> engages in an inclined or helical slot 12 in the ring 2b and parts of the upper flange of the ring 2b are cut away leaving two upstanding lugs 3a to clamp the disc against the neck 1<a>. To adapt the device to be applied to a container having an internally threaded neck the ring 2 is formed with a downwardly extending sleeve adapted to screw into the neck. A hinged cover may be fitted to the ring to exclude dust from the closure disc.
