242,979. Koenemann, E. Nov. 14, 1924, [Convention date]. Heating by caustic soda and the like. - In a caustic soda or like boiler, the steam injected into the lye is at a pressure below atmospheric. Steam from the externally heated lye evaporator 1 is used to drive a turbine 6, the exhaust from which is injected through a distributor 8 into the lye in a vessel 2 the pressure in which is maintained below atmospheric. The lye is circulated by a pump 14 from the vessel 2 through a coil 15 in a boiler 3 back to the vessel. Steam from the boiler drives a turbine 18. The diluted lye is forced by a pump 9 through a heat exchanger 10 into the evaporator, and after concentration is returned to the vessel 2 through the heat exchanger.
