Heating by caustic soda and the like. - In caustic soda or like boilers, the lye in the vessels in which it is diluted by the injection of steam is separately circulated this circulation combining in the vessels with the circulation between the vessels and the evaporators. Lye from a vessel 3 into which steam is injected through a pipe 7 is drawn by a pump 12 through a pipe 11 into an evaporator 6, from which it passes through a pipe 13 into the evaporator 4 associated with the vessel 3. It passes from the evaporator 4 through the pipe 14 containing a throttle valve 15 into the mixing vessel 5 associated with the evaporator 6. Pumps 18, 21 maintain a secondary circulation of the lye in the mixing vessels through external pipes 17.
