Abstract

242,304. Franþon, J. Nov. 3, 1924, [Convention date]. Brakes, arrangement and disposition of, and braking.-Relates to brakes for the steering wheels in which provision is made for transmitting the braking stresses to the chassis. The brake band 7, Figs. 1 and 2, is fixed to a memher S pivoting about an axis 9 coaxial with the steering pivot. The axis 9 is pivotally held by an adjustable link 20, Fig. 3, fixedly or resiliently attached to the chassis, and by a spring link 24a also attached to the chassis and adapted to take side stresses. The member 8 has a slot 11 for a pin 10 adapted to roll on rings 5, 6 rotatable on the brake drum 1. The ends of the brake band 7 are connected' together by link- and-pivot mechanism 16, Fig. 2, which is connected by an extension 18 of one of the links at a point 19 to a casing 12 attached to the rings 5, 6. The brake-operating cable 28 is also attached at the point 19 which is coaxial with the steering pivot. In a modification, shown in Fig. 5, the brake device is supported on a flange 59 of drum 51 which is supported on ball bearings or rings on the hub 50 within the brake drum 1.
